In our recent tastings and travels, we've observed a new ethos emerging in California winemaking: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay shaped not by Meiomi nor Belle Glos, but by the spirit of Burgundy, France.
Not every vintner is chasing Chambolle-Musigny, but we’re hearing it more and more: “I can’t recreate Burgundy in the Russian River—but I’m after that same silky, seductive quality.” This isn’t just low-alcohol or natural wine. This is something different. Something we’re calling Caliburgundy—a refined, exciting new wave.
