Join us for the sweetest night of the year! The Beacon’s annual Cake Gala celebrates resilience, healing, and the power of community while raising critical funds for women rebuilding their lives after trauma.
At The Beacon, every woman is celebrated on her birthday with a homemade cake—a simple but powerful tradition reminding her that she is worthy, valued, and loved. From that tradition, the Cake Gala was born. Each year, local bakers and businesses donate beautiful cakes for our signature auction. Guests bid generously, knowing their dollars provide more than desserts—they provide dignity, safety, and the chance to begin again.
The impact is undeniable: 100% of Beacon graduates move into permanent housing with stable income, health insurance, and at least $600 in savings—and 85% do not relapse or return to prison.
This year’s event will support 34 women through six months of housing, meals, case management, employment support, and holistic care. Every $26 raised covers one full day of shelter and services for a woman on her healing journey.

The Beacon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in the Sherman Hill neighborhood of Des Moines. Since 1980, we’ve provided trauma-informed shelter, housing, and holistic support services for women in crisis. We currently house 66 women across two campuses and serve over 100 women annually, helping them achieve stability, healing, and long-term independence.
