BurlyCon Sweet 16 Fundraiser Auction
It’s BurlyCon’s Sweet 16 year and we’re excited to host our first-ever fundraiser auction on November 18 in Seattle, WA at Repair Revolution and you’re invited! Our event theme is 90s Come As You Are - an evening of dinner, a silent auction, and a live auction hosted by Rebecca Mmm Davis and auctioneered by Laura Michalek.
Dinner is included with every ticket to the auction. A delicious taco bar will be provided by It's All Good Catering (including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options). Desserts will be provided from community sponsors as part of an auctioned “dessert dash”. Dietary restrictions will be considered upon acquisition.
BurlyCon was founded in 2008 by Miss Indigo Blue and Jo Weldon and is a beloved convention by the burlesque community for burlesque arts education. Hundreds of burlesque performers from North America and around the globe attend BurlyCon each year.
The opportunities a weekend at BurlyCon afford each attendee is priceless, including:
- Learning from dozens of burlesque instructors, especially from those whose paths may never otherwise cross
- Building skills
- Deepening knowledge
- Growing professionally
- Networking in person
- Creating life-long new friendships
The pandemic gave us an opportunity to truly dream of what our path forward could be, and it also had a financial impact on our organization since our primary funding is convention passes. Because burlesque is often seen as sex work, BurlyCon has not been as successful in grant awards as other arts-nonprofits throughout Seattle.
To build our dreams and review policies and write procedures, we took 2023 to restructure, rebuild, and renew. This decision was monumental and imperative to our future, and we recognize the impact it had on the burlesque community. This fundraiser will help our organization:
- Raise vital dollars to help us recover from the pandemic and our restructure year
- Provide more scholarships in 2024 than we’ve been able to in the past
- Kick off a Global Stripper Education Exchange Program
- Continue to fund our Legends Archive program. As many say, burlesque Legends are a finite resource and we want to immerse ourselves in their history, stories, lives, and friendships as quickly and deeply as possible
- Build the world’s first online burlesque university for professional growth
- Move forward with the future of BurlyCon and celebrate our organization’s work with the global community
