Buffalo Chamber Music Society: Jupiter Quartet

The Buffalo Chamber Music Society opens its 2026–27 ticketed concert season with the Jupiter String Quartet, an internationally celebrated ensemble praised by The New Yorker as “an ensemble of eloquent intensity” and “one of the mainstays of the American chamber-music scene.” Founded in 2001, the Jupiter String Quartet brings a rare sense of connection to the stage. Its members include violinists Mélanie Clapiès and Meg Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel, and cellist Daniel McDonough. With two sisters and a brother-in-law among its members, the quartet combines the close communication of family with decades of shared artistic experience, creating performances that are at once warm, insightful, energetic, and adventurous. The ensemble has appeared in leading venues across the United States and around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Library of Congress, and Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes. Its honors include grand prizes at the Banff International String Quartet Competition and Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, as well as a Young Concert Artists International Auditions win, the Cleveland Quartet Award from Chamber Music America, and an Avery Fisher Career Grant. Equally devoted to the beloved masterworks of the string-quartet repertoire and to music of our time, the Jupiter String Quartet has performed complete Beethoven and Bartók cycles while commissioning works by leading contemporary composers. As artists-in-residence and faculty at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the musicians also share their passion for chamber music through teaching, masterclasses, and educational performances. Join BCMS for an inspiring opening-night performance and experience four remarkable musicians in the intimate setting of the Mary Seaton Room at Kleinhans Music Hall. The concert takes place Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30. The quartet will also be performing a different program at UB's Lippes Concert Hall on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 7:30pm.
