Bruce Wood Dance 13th Anniversary Performance and Gala
"This event pays tribute to Bruce Wood's artistry as reflected in the work of his mentor Lar Lubovitch. Lubovitch had a profound influence on Wood's creative style," says the company's artistic director, Joy Bollinger.
Named "a national treasure" by Variety, Lar Lubovitch is one of America's most popular choreographers. He has created renowned dances which appear in the repertoires of major dance companies, including American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Our once-in-a-lifetime performance spotlights Lubovitch's work in:
- Conversing with Brahms (world premiere). Inspired by the musical mysteries of Johannes Brahms' "Piano Pieces, Opus 76", accompanied live by guest pianist Jose Antonio Cubela,
- Concerto Six Twenty-Two (Dallas premiere). Created in 1986 at the height of the AIDS epidemic, this masterpiece has become one of Lubovitch's most celebrated works, and
- Elemental Brubeck. Set to the exhilarating jazz of Dave Brubeck, this tribute to mid-century American music and social dances will energize the room!
