There will be three panelists who will help us understand differing perspectives. A non-partisan panelist will provide a helpful overview of the purpose of and what is involved in DEI. Two other panelists will discuss the pros and cons of DEI programs from their knowledgeable and differing perspectives.
This is an opportunity for people who feel passionately about the need for fairness in schools, companies, and government programs, and want to understand why so many people disagree about how to achieve those values. DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and refers to programs intended to promote these values.
Some people believe DEI programs are absolutely essential to achieving fairness in our society. However, other people believe that these same programs create even more division in our society and cause discrimination to continue. After the speakers, there will be the opportunity for questions and further discussion with the audience.
The process will be facilitated by a trained Braver Angels Moderator to ensure the use of Braver Angels Civil Discourse Policies. The opening speakers include Cindy Burack, Political Theorist & Professor of Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies at The Ohio State University, and Wendy Ake, Public Finance Justice, Program Director at Othering & Belonging Institute.
We welcome people of all political leanings to join us.
