Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit 49th Anniversary Spring Concert

Join the Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit for an afternoon filled with the Spirit of Adventure as it journeys through time and space, explores new lands and seas, encounters dragons and wild horses and honors heroes of the football field and the battlefield. The adventure begins with "Guardians of Peace", dedicated to the United States Navy Atlantic Fleet that is ready to deploy from its base in Norfolk, Virginia, at a moment's notice to help maintain peace and stability in any region in the world. In" Persis" (the Greek word for Persia), a modern-day American man travels back in time to the ancient city of Persepolis. There, he meets the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, who recognizes him as a person she had known before in another place and time. But his presence in the Royal Courtyard is forbidden and their blissful moment is interrupted by armed warriors. A chase through the city ensues with the man sadly reflecting on the romance that might have been. Kentucky has a rich musical heritage of traditional ballads and English and Scottish folk songs that goes back to the 1670’s. "Songs of Old Kentucky" includes five of those tunes – John Riley, The Lonesome Scenes of Winter, Sourwood Mountain, Frog Went A-Courting and Loving Hannah. Next comes John Philip Sousa's 1915 march "The Pathfinder of Panama", written to commemorate the opening of the canal. In 1848, Robert Schumann wrote Album for the Young for his three daughters. The collection of 43 miniature piano pieces included one called The Wild Horseman, which was arranged for band by Harold Walters 100 years later. The result was "Trumpets Wild", featuring a trumpet trio. Then the entire trumpet section shows off with "The Screamer". What could be more adventuresome than trying to train a dragon? Find out in the theme from "How to Train Your Dragon". Maybe a visit to a "HAUNTED CARNIVAL! Then the band honors football heroes throughout the decades by playing "Music of NFL Films", which includes Battlefield Glory, The Chase, Tall Order and Early Dawn. And no NFL salute would be complete without honoring the most recent champions with Arlen R. Saylor's arrangement of "Eagles Victory". The day of adventure continues with the theme from "Seaquest DSV", which tells the story of a high-tech submarine in the near future operated by the United Earth Oceans Organization. Then the band blasts off to "Space and Beyond", which includes music from Star Wars, Star Trek the Motion Picture, Mars and Also Sprach Zarathustra. Next on the trip is an exploration of the American frontier with the theme from the TV show "The Wild, Wild West" and the 1960's pop hit by the Shadows, "Apache". "In A Hot Air Balloon Adventure", preparations for the flight are heard and the journey soon begins, taking off with an uplifting fanfare. The balloon then breaks through the clouds as the sun appears above, surrounded by crystal-clear skies. But soon the flight takes an ominous turn as a vicious storm approaches. Will the pilot return safely to the ground? There are exhilarating adventures that people can look back on with fond memories for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, there are also unwanted adventures like wars. The concert concludes the way it began with a tribute to the guardians of peace. "Flying Fortress" honors those who flew B-17 aircraft in World World II. The "General Spaatz March" is dedicated to the Boyertown native, who was commander of the Strategic Air Forces in Europe in 1944 and was later named the Commanding General of the Army Air Forces and the first Chief of Staff of the new United States Air Force. "Fantasy on Yankee Doodle" and Bill Moffit's Battle Hymn of the Republic pay tribute to heroes of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The afternoon of adventure concludes with the BAMU signature song, "Saints in Concert"..
