Booker T. Jones
Few artists can say they helped define the sound of American soul music. Booker T. Jones did exactly that. As the leader of the legendary Booker T. & the M.G.’s and a cornerstone of Stax Records, Jones helped shape the sound of an era through timeless recordings like “Green Onions,” “Time Is Tight,” and “Hip Hug-Her.” More than sixty years after its release, his influence can still be heard across soul, rock, R&B, and contemporary music.
A GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Jones has collaborated with an extraordinary range of artists, including Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, and Bill Withers. His unmistakable Hammond B-3 organ playing became one of the defining sounds of Memphis soul, cementing Stax Records’ place in American music history.
