Blues Challenge Heavyweights Collide: Matt Swanton Band & Bees Deluxe Take Over Chan’s
WOONSOCKET, RI — On Saturday, November 15, Rhode Island’s legendary Chan’s Egg Roll & Jazz roars to life with a can’t-miss double bill: two award-winning bands, the Matt Swanton Band and Bees Deluxe, joining forces for one explosive night of modern blues. This rare combo brings together two of New England’s premier blues acts—fresh off victories on the competition circuit—for an evening of musicianship, improvisation, and soul that’s guaranteed to be unforgettable.
Meet The Matt Swanton Band
Boston’s own Matt Swanton Band stormed onto the scene in 2023 with their dynamic, self-titled debut—serving up a potent blend of modern blues and gritty roots rock. Lead guitarist and vocalist Matt Swanton is joined by bassist Ken Edelman, keyboard wizard Dave Osoff, and powerhouse drummer Dan Vaccari. These four electrify every stage, from local haunts to Memphis, where they made waves at the International Blues Challenge by advancing to the semi-finals as representatives of the Boston Blues Society.
Now, with the brand-new album “Growing Pains” already turning heads, the Matt Swanton Band is poised for their biggest year yet. Their high-voltage performances and original sound continue to cement their status as one of the hottest rising acts in the Northeast.
The Bees Deluxe Buzz
Sharing the stage are Boston’s genre-bending Bees Deluxe—winners of the 2025 Granite State Blues Society Challenge and slated to represent New England at the 2026 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. The lineup features keyboardist, harmonica player, and vocalist Carol Band; drummer Paul Giovine; and guitarist-vocalist Conrad Warre. Their adventurous “acid blues” fuses Chicago blues with jazz, funk, and psychedelic rock, creating a sonic experience that’s unpredictable, daring, and utterly compelling.
Bees Deluxe are notorious for mixing their own inventive originals with flamboyant reworks of classic tunes by Etta James, Billie Holiday, and Bobby “Blue” Bland. Whether tearing up stages from Maine to Miami or in their Boston home base, this band’s energy and risk-taking make every show an adventure.
A Historic Night at Chan’s
Hosting live music since 1905, Chan’s is Rhode Island’s unrivaled live blues venue—famous for top-tier acts and legendary Asian cuisine.
