IMMATURE ELEMENTS
Immature Elements is a five piece new band from Santa Cruz offering fusion sounds from neo-soul to alt-rock and jazz. A goofy group of individuals who want to make some good music. The band uses synths, horns, and a traditional ensemble of live rock instruments for your listening pleasure.
The lead singer, Laila Wemusa, studied Opera at Berklee College. The drummer and band leader, Jonah Shick, has played in the UCSC Jazz Band, CJC jazz ensembles, and participated in West African Drumming at Malonga Arts Center. The man on the keys and brains of the band, Chris Askins, was a classically trained pianist but even at a young age knew his muse came from jazz. He has been playing keys for almost as long as he can remember and now adds synths to create one of the key elements of the band. Giuliano Liu holding it down on the bass and more recently diving into the world of jazz playing in the UCSC Big Band. Finally, the lead guitarist Jason Cabandy employs self-taught blues and 70s-era rock and funk techniques and seems to always know the right thing to play.
TASHA MALAN
Tasha Malan, a versatile lyricist and studio vocalist, blends elements of art pop and contemporary R&B in her music. Hailing from Mexico but raised in the culturally rich Bay Area, her upbringing infuses her work with a diverse array of influences, including 80s pop, hip hop, R&B, and Latin sounds. Her musical background lends her music a unique sound that resonates with listeners across genres.
With a keen ear for melody and knack for crafting lyrics that provoke all the senses, Malan's songs often explore themes of love, self reflection, and her intersectional identity. Her emotive vocals, coupled with captivating production, create an immersive listening experience that leaves a lasting impression.
As she works towards the completion of her debut full-length album, Malan continues to refine her sound and push the boundaries of her artistry. With her innate talent and unwavering dedication to her craft, she is undoubtedly a rising star to watch in the realm of contemporary music.
