Benefit Concert at the Jazz Gallery on March 22

In December 2024 the Board of the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts (JGCA) in Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood voted to embark on an ambitious, $50,000 fund raising effort to revitalize both the interior and exterior of its historic building at 926 E. Center Street. That effort will get a big boost when the wildly popular J Ryan Trio takes the stage for a benefit concert at the JGCA on Saturday, March 22 at 7 pm. Admission for this very special March 22 benefit show will be $15 and all proceeds will be directed towards ongoing building rehab. The non-profit Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts is located in what was a privately-owned jazz club presenting internationally known musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, and Wynton Marsalis from 1978 until 1984. The J Ryan Trio (JRT) is a Milwaukee-based jazz/blues/soul/gospel band that has been playing regularly in Wisconsin and Illinois for almost fifteen years. The band is unique in that they donate every dollar from their shows to great local charities including Feed My Starving Children, Milwaukee Homeless Veteran’s Initiative, Feeding America, and others. No mere jazz cover band, the JRT often plays traditional jazz in a decidedly untraditional way, experimenting with Afro-Cuban rhythms, odd time signatures, and spontaneous mashups. For this particular show at the Jazz Gallery, the band is digging deep into its jazz catalog and is planning a diverse set list encompassing everything from Chick Corea and John Coltrane to tunes by George Gershwin, Diana Krall and even a little band from Ireland named U2. The J Ryan Trio has recorded four full-length albums and is currently working on their fifth album project.
