Belle City Brassworks presents "Songs from the Scottish Highlands"
Belle City Brassworks, Racine’s favorite brass band, continues its 37th season on Sunday, March 22 at 3 p.m. with an Scottish-themed concert that will also feature the winners of the 2026 Belle City Brassworks scholarship competition. “Songs from the Scottish Highlands” will take place at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. 6th St., Racine.
Admission to the concert is free; baskets will be passed during intermission to collect donations to support the nonprofit organization of volunteer musicians.
The group of 47 experienced brass players, led by music director Doug Johnson, will keep toes tapping and hands clapping throughout the spirited program, featuring “Hymn of the Highlands” by Philip Sparks, “Ross Roy” by Jacob de Hahn, “Wild Mountain Thyme” by Alan Fernie and more.
The concert will also showcase performances by this year’s scholarship winners, Dallen Arendt, trumpet player from Tremper High School in Kenosha and Richard Jimenez-Munoz, trumpet player from Horlick High School in Racine.
Looking ahead, the Belle City Brassworks’ final concert of the season will take place at 3 p.m. on June 7 at Bedford Concert Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts & Humanities The group will also perform at the Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. May 25 at Graceland Cemetery.
