Beatrix Farrand: Aspirations That Transcend Time


Beatrix Farrand was a trailblazing woman who established a successful landscape architecture buiness in 1895. Starting out in a humble office, her talent and vision led her to create stunning campus landscapes for prestigious universities, homes and estates. As Edith Wharton's niece, Beatrix and Edith together worked on Wharton's garden at the Mount in Lennox, Massachusetts.

Though over a century ago, twelve of her gardens still grow across the country. Three of these are Connecticut gardens. Hear about Beatrix Farrand's incredible legacy and her lasting impact on the world of landscape architecture.
