The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company of Chicago (GSOC) is hosting its second annual fundraising cabaret – “Be Italian” – on Sunday, September 28 at 5:00pm at the Chicago Dramatists Theater at 798 North Aberdeen Street. The cabaret supports the company’s upcoming production of The Gondoliers running March 6th through 8th, 2026 at the University of Chicago.
GSOC Artistic Director Shane Valenzi will present an exuberant evening of singing with a roster of Chicago’s most talented performers. A ticket to the cabaret also includes two drinks and Italian snacks.
General admission is $50 and Industry tickets can be purchased for $20.
“After a sold-out run of The Pirates of Penzance last year, I couldn’t be more excited to keep the momentum going into our next season,” said Shane Valenzi, Artistic Director. “Now we travel from the coasts of Cornwall to the canals of Venice and invite you to be Italian for the evening as we prepare for our upcoming production of The Gondoliers. A big thank you to our generous performers who will be sharing their talent with us this magical evening.”
Accompanied by Dana L. Brown, the evening will feature performances by Molly Clementz, Noah Friedlander, Andy Terwilliger, Benjamin Recchie, Sasha Tomasevich, Alexandra Kassouf, Mary Nora Wolf, Lifan Deng, Alexandra Strother, Brett Sweeney, Caden Cole, Ian Weber, Anna Caldwell, SarahAnn Sutter, Grace Ryan, Jamie Woodhull, Katya Bakas, Elizabeth Fisher, Katherine Petersen, Ross Matsuda, Chiemerie Obianom, Jonathan Zeng, and Isabel Schmitz.
The cabaret will include Italian-themed numbers from favorites like Nine and The Light in the Piazza alongside Gilbert & Sullivan classics like The Mikado, Princess Ida, and Ruddigore.
