AWP Offsite: EcoTheo Collective’s Lorca Latinx Prize Reading

In collaboration with Letras Latinas, the literary initiative at the Institute for Latino Studies at Notre Dame, EcoTheo Collective is honored to present a liturgically-inflected poetry reading in celebration of the Lorca Latinx Prize, featuring 2022 Lorca Prizewinner heidi andrea restrepo rhodes, Guest Judge Carmen Giménez, and First Reader Suzi F. Garcia. A registered nonprofit, EcoTheo Collective celebrates wonder, enlivens conversations, and inspires commitments to ecology, spirituality, and art. This event will be hosted as part of EcoTheo's LOGOS Poetry Reading Series, which artfully, lovingly, non-dogmatically folds aspects of sacred ritual into the format of a traditional poetry reading to create a space for sharing poems that is participatory and dynamic. Established in 2019, The Lorca Latinx Poetry Prize supports the publication of a dual-language, artisanal chapbook by a poet with no more than one full-length collection in print. The Prize facilitates various trans-oceanic platforms for this poet to present their work—as a way to celebrate Federico García Lorca's legacy of friendship across borders, and to globalize Latinx poetry in the 21st century. heidi andrea restrepo rhodes is a queer, Colombian/Latinx, poet, artist, scholar, & activist. Her poetry collection The Inheritance of Haunting was selected by Ada Limón for the 2018 Letras Latinas Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize for a first book for a Latina/o/x poet & was published by University of Notre Dame Press in 2019. Her chapbook, ephemeral won the 2022 Lorca Latinx Poetry Prize and will be published in 2023 by EcoTheo Collective. Carmen Giménez is the author of numerous poetry collections, including Milk and Filth, a finalist for the NBCC Award in Poetry and Be Recorder (Graywolf Press, 2019), which was a finalist for the 2019 National Book Award in Poetry, the PEN Open Book Award, the Audre Lorde Award for Lesbian Poetry, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. She was awarded the Academy of American Poets Fellowship Prize in 2020. A 2019 Guggenheim fellow, she served as the publisher of Noemi Press for twenty years. She is Publisher and Executive Director of Graywolf Press. Suzi F. Garcia is the author of the chapbook, A Home Grown Fairytale, Bone Bouquet 2020.
