Assemble's 4th Annual 6x6: Alchemy Gallery Show
Assemble’s 6x6: Alchemy show invites local artists and creatives of all ages and backgrounds to create custom artwork that fits within a 6-by-6-inch space. Artists are welcome to create works that are ready to be hung on the wall, utilizing canvases, canvasboard, electronics, embroidery hoops, interactive objects, and more. Assemble provides canvases and canvas boards for participants. Canvases can be picked up from now until January 23. Finished work is due back at Assemble by January 23. The opening on Friday, February 6th, is free and open to the public. Refreshments and snacks are provided for free for all ages as a hands-on-activity. All artworks are available for purchase exclusively in person for $30 each. Pieces are removed from the wall once sold. The accumulated works will be showcased on Assemble’s Instagram, @assemblepgh
6x6 offers local creatives an opportunity to display their work with no barriers – anyone is welcome to make their own artwork, with no portfolio or entry fee. It is an opportunity to experiment, play, and dream while creating. The theme for the 2026 6x6 show is Alchemy, a mysterious, impressive process for transformation. Assemble’s programs ask participants to use Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, or STEAM learning, to transform the world around them, especially when it comes to impossible and insurmountable challenges. At a time when many feel stuck, alchemy reminds us of the potential energy in the power of change. New this year as part of 6x6: Alchemy, artists are challenged to transform and remix old canvases, building off the context and not just a blank page. Like all Assemble projects, participants are encouraged to reimagine recycled materials, experiment, and build confidence through making. With more than 200 works on display last year, 6x6 is also a visualization of the vast array of creative expression and the accessible Assemble community.
