The Ascalon Sword Festival returns in 2023 for 3-days of fast paced fencing action March 17-19. Join us as we celebrate the artistry and history of sword sports. This year’s competitions will feature historical weapons including the longsword, military saber, armored combat and more. The event is free to attend.
Competitions will take place at Royal Arts Fencing Academy located at 5770 Westbourne Ave, Columbus, OH.
The Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) competitions will include four divisions for longsword, military saber, rapier and dagger, sword and buckler, and deed of arms or armored combat. Medals will be awarded to the top 8 finishers in each division and a cash prize of $1000 will be awarded to first place finisher in division 1 longsword.
Tournament Director Julia Richey is head coach and owner of the Royal Arts Fencing Academy, a former 13-year member of the Russian National Fencing Team and Director of international fencing tournaments since 2004. “Fencing is the best sport! Join us and fencers from 10 states and Canada and be a part of the best sword festival anywhere in the world!”
Schedule of Events: (subject to change)
Friday: 9:00 AM Military Saber, 4:00 PM Division 3 Longsword.
Saturday: 9:00 AM Division 1 Longsword, 12:30 PM Deed of Arms, 4:30 PM Division 2 Longsword.
Sunday: 8:30 AM Rapier & Dagger, 1:00 PM Marginalized Gender Longsword, 1:00 PM Sword & Buckler.
The event is hosted by the Royal Arts Fencing Academy, the Rose & Gold Foundation, a 501(c)3 with the mission to improve lives through fencing and USA HEMA, a 501(c)3 that fosters the growth of HEMA in the United States through excellence in competition and education.
