As I Walk The Streets From Long Ago: Egypt Across Four Decades

As I Walk The Streets From Long Ago: Egypt Across Four Decades brings together photographs made in Egypt by three American photographers across more than forty years. Adam Bartos, Robert Lyons, and Charlie Weber each approach Egypt through color photography. Bartos photographed Egypt in the 1980s, Lyons in the 2000s, and Weber in the 2020s. The photographs span more than forty years, yet the distance between them begins to disappear. Amid the visual abundance of everyday life, Egypt appears strangely unchanged. The exhibition will be held at the Barnaby Castle Carriage House, a historic 1875 structure located at 159 Sutton Street in Providence's West Side. The exhibition continues the building's history as a noncommercial pop up and gallery space. Adam Bartos is a New York based photographer whose work has been exhibited internationally and is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, and others. Robert Lyons lives and works in Portland, Oregon, and founded the International Limited Residency Photo MFA Program at the University of Hartford Art School. His photographs are held in collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Portland Art Museum. Charlie Weber is a Providence-based photographer and educator. His work has been exhibited at the International Center of Photography, Villa Heike Berlin, and Baxter St at the Camera Club of New York, among others. He teaches at the Hartford Art School and the Penumbra Foundation in New York City.
