Come join us in Bridgeport's favorite vintage shop for a sit down interview conducted by So Happy You're Here co-owner, Elena. Whether shy or outgoing, this is a great event for you! Questions from the audience are welcome, and after the talk there is time to meet the artist and do some shopping! First arrival of the night gets a free screenprinted tee with one of Eric's designs.
These bi-monthly artist talks are a staple of So Happy You're Here, a business who prides themselves on community-building throughout Chicago. The space itself is a cozy 900 sq. foot small business in the heart of Bridgeport. Questions center around the process of creation and the life of the artist.
About the artist:
"Destruction is a form of creation. Most of my works are created over already-existing pieces, covering up the original image underneath while still reacting to the subjects or feelings of the original piece. Sometimes I preserve a small part of the original, to create a parallel or juxtaposition with my own additions. Fragments embedded with history and texture only add to my pieces: an unwilling collaboration or a call and response. I usually ask myself: can I maintain the initial feelings while changing the subject, colors, and medium? Can I change the emotions even while preserving part of the original?
When I start with a fresh canvas, I try to bring out the spirit of positivity and optimism that runs through me even in tough times. To share joy by evoking nostalgia or having a childlike and playful approach while painting. I see it in nature and people, and I want to show a silver lining to those who see dark clouds. "
