Each month, The 8th House — an antiques, vintage, and fine art shop in Albuquerque — hosts a different artist for a limited-run exhibition. This August, the gallery welcomes Vivienne Riggio, a Santa Fe-based multi-medium artist, for a month-long show of wall art.
Vivienne's collection for this show brings together mixed media paper pieces, mosaic art, metal crosses, published art books, and sculptural wall pieces. Her materials include churro sheep's wool, traditional colcha embroidery, and objects reclaimed from scrap yards, forests, and antique fairs — each piece assembled through what she describes as a collaborative, democratic process, where every material has a voice in the final work.
Vivienne's path to this practice wasn't a straight line. She spent years working in costume design at the Santa Fe Opera, an experience that shaped her eye for texture, dimension, and construction. Before that, she built a career advocating for worker and labor rights across Latin America, Asia, and North America. Both threads run through her current work: an attention to craftsmanship paired with a deep respect for materials and their histories. Vivienne has also been recognized as a Spotlight Program artist at Art Santa Fe.
This exhibition is free and open to the public during regular gallery hours. The 8th House operates on a weekends-only schedule, so visitors are encouraged to plan their trip in advance — this show closes Sunday, August 30.
