What: A Sampler of Visual Art Techniques, each week we will learn a new technique. Drawing/Gouache/Collage/Monotype printing
*Fine arts Instructor Lauren Kindle will guide students in a variety of techniques using a teaching philosophy that values playfulness and experimentation. We turn away from perfectionism, and we are gentle with ourselves.
Why: To inspire, refill the tank, replenish, and help bring beauty to your life and to the world during chaotic and stressful times. The act of creating art can be restorative and meditative.
4 Week Schedule
Week 1: Sketchbook fun. Students will learn the basics of sketching with a pencil. We will go out in the garden and make some botanical sketches. Students will gain a deeper understanding of line, value, and a variety of ways to make use of the simple pencil.
Week 2: Gouache Painting: Gouache is an opaque watercolor, versatile and fun to use. We will work from our sketches from the week before, as well as painting from life from a still life set up. Weather permitting, we may do some painting out-of-doors. Students will gain an understanding of color mixing and paint application.
Week 3: Collage: Looking at our sketches and paintings from the previous weeks, we will make some collages using painted paper. Students will come away with a deeper understanding of composition.
Week 4: Monotype: We will end our series by learning a simple print-making technique that is messy and fun. Students will learn how to let go of their perfectionism and embrace “happy accidents.”
