Please join Rockland Center for the Arts for the opening of Art-ifacts: Works by William Rauschenberg in Gallery Two.
William Rauschenberg’s casted art pieces are familiar images, that also evoke memories of when they were once utilized in everyday life. Using the lost art of sand casting techniques he collages three dimensional puzzle-like pieces of the salient parts of whatever has captured his attention, to form a four-sided imprint. This medium is perfect for the strangely contemporary bas-reliefs made from tools and objects of a bygone era. Some of the tools casted belonged to Rauschenberg’s Great Grandfather WT Braswell. Castings have varied from musical instruments, to an old push mower, to kitchen tools, to century old tools or familiar items that intrigue him.
Rauschenberg has ben pursuing art from a very early age. He chose to follow his love of art through teaching art, which he did as an Elementary Grade Art Specialist, retiring in 2013.
He has exhibited his casted pieces at the Historical Society of the Nyacks, the Edward Hopper House Museum and Study Center, the Arts Student League @ Vytlacil, Garner Arts Center, and the Volition Gallery.
The exhibit opens with an artist reception on Sunday, Feb. 121th, 2:00pm – 5:00pm. The exhibit will be on view through April 1st, open Mondays – Saturdays 11am – 4pm, (closed Sundays). Free to the Public. For more information call (845) 358-0877 or visit www.rocklandartcenter.org.
