The Lamorinda Arts Council invites you to view featured artist Joy Chew’s digital paintings of cats and capybara (“Whiskers and Zen”) from Sept. 9 to Oct. 6.
Joy uses digital tools such as Procreate on her iPad as well as other platforms. YouTube is also a valuable learning tool. Currently she paints with watercolor and water soluble pastels which handle with all the smoothness of oil pastels. “My goal is to evoke an emotional response in viewers – I want people to feel something,” she said.
Her exhibit focuses on digital paintings of cats and capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris). “The calm, Zen-like demeanor of capybara challenges me to depict them in many settings,” she said, continuing, “I include whimsy, warmth and happiness in my paintings.”
Her favorite art educator is Canadian Marco Bucci and she is inspired by the digital artwork of Loish at https://loish.net/ in the Netherlands. Learn more at https://www.joyousjoyness.com/.
