ARRL Field Day with Simulated Earthquake


Indianapolis Radio Club to Participate in ARRL Field Day Speedway, IN – June 22nd & 23rd – The Indianapolis Radio Club will be joining the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) Field Day this year. This annual event provides amateur radio operators, also known as hams, with an opportunity to hone their communication skills in a simulated emergency environment. Hams: A Vital Communication Lifeline Ham radio operators play a critical role during emergencies when traditional communication methods become overloaded or unavailable. They can relay crucial information during events, parades, community gatherings, and disasters. ARRL Field Day Simulation This Saturday and Sunday, June 22nd & 23rd, hams will be participating in a simulated earthquake scenario. The event will follow these steps: • Early Morning: Amateurs will check on family members to ensure their safety. • Gathering: Participants will meet at the Speedway Municipal Center (5300 Crawfordsville Rd) to set up emergency communication systems. • Communication Simulation: During the simulated earthquake, amateurs will send messages to other responding organizations as part of the exercise. Field Day Activities Following the simulation, the official ARRL Field Day commences. Start time for field day starts at 2:00pm. During this time, amateurs will use the established communication setup to: • Make Contact: Reach out to other amateur radio operators around the world. • Public Welcome: Visitors are encouraged to attend the event and experience ham radio firsthand. With the help of a licensed operator, you can even make radio contact and talk to someone across the globe! This event offers a valuable opportunity to learn about amateur radio and its importance in emergency communication.
