Smitherman, a survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre who later became a leading voice in Buffalo as the founder of the Buffalo/Empire Star newspaper. Following the screening, educator, historian, and community leader Dr. Barbara Seals Nevergold—whose research inspired the film—will lead a discussion with filmmaker Tala Harden.
