An Intimate Night with an Author presented by Spinner Publications. Spinner author, Dan Georgianna, Chancellor Professor Emeritus SMAST / Fisheries Oceanography at UMass Dartmouth will be interviewed by Corey Nuffer, an author, journalist, presenter, story teller, and sommelier. In Dan Georgianna’s newest book, The Secret and Public Life of Scallops, the history of scallops unfolds from the sea floor to dinner plate, including how scallops became the best managed fishery on the east coast, establishing New Bedford as the most valuable port in the United States.
Discover the scallop tale as it went from a tidbit wrapped in bacon to a gourmet meal. Hear about how Newfoundlanders, Mainers, and Norwegians brought scallop fishing to New Bedford in the 1920s and 1930s when the city was down on its luck, along with the booms and busts. Georgianna’s book captures it all.
