Historian Mark Albertson will host a special presentation, “America’s Irish Legacy” on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 2pm at the Newtown Library. The event is sponsored by the Newtown Historical Society and C.H. Booth Library.
In keeping with the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, Mr. Albertson has designed a brief but comprehensive introspective of the Irish experience in North America, beginning in the late 16th century and into our current times. Known for his unique ability to present a breadth of information in a clear and engaging manner, Albertson will explore the role of Irish immigrants in the development of the United States and its socio-political history, highlighting the iconic moments that we consider fundamental to our present-day American identity.
This will be Mr. Albertson’s second visit to Newtown. In September, he gave a presentation titled, “The Great One: Jackie Gleason,” and The Newtown Historical Society and C.H. Booth Library are delighted to welcome him back.
Mark Albertson is the historical research editor for the Army Aviation magazine, and the historian for the Army Aviation Association of America. He has authored multiple books on military history and served as a professor at Norwalk Community College as well as the Lifetime Learners Institute.
“As always, the Historical Society gladly welcomes you to this free event,” says program facilitator Gordon Williams, “but donations are always welcome.”
