America 250! Cow Ford Historic Marker Dedication


Historic Site Marker Unveiling. Public Invitation. Recently historical documents were discovered that reveal that the Cow Ford ferry played an important role in the Revolutionary War, The British Loyalists located in the St Augustine area were using the ferry to transport artillery/ munitions to fight the Patriots in the southern portions of the Colonies. The Patriots engaged in efforts to gain control over the ferry from the British and the Native Indians who were also Loyalists. The Cow Ford ferry lead to the Kings Road, a major artery of transportation during this period. Cow Ford, the former name of Jacksonville is now recognized as a Fla Historic Site. The Ft San Nicholas Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution presents this event to and for the public. A Fla Historic Marker sign will be unveiled. There will be speakers, a band, and a celebration. A representative from the Mayor's Office will give a short keynote speech on "The Meaning of Independence." . Historians will speak of the Rev War significance. The public is cordially invited. FREE event. Parking available in CSX parking lot for $5.or park on the street. June 20, 2026. 10-11 AM.
