Alpine chorale Chirstmas concert
This will be a beautiful concert with a wide range of styles! We will open with Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols, performed with an amazing harp player. The Ceremony is a seasonal favorite, with medieval poetry and 20th century musical composition. There are many recordings on YouTube that are fantastic listening, and every recording is different. We are looking forward to presenting our own unique performance.
Other gems on the concert include the Poulenc: Quem vidistis pastores dicite, di Lasso's: Jubilate Deo, and Noel Nouvelet, arranged by our own Pete Simpson for harp and flute. Contemporary composers represented on this concert include Dan Forrest, John Rutter, Randall Thompson, and Jackson Berkey. There is a unique and interesting double choir piece by Nigerian/Canadian organist and composer Kola Owolabi, Hodie, Christus natus est. There's a great performance of this on YouTube with choir and organ (as choir 2). We of course will be singing both choir parts, from the sides of the auditorium, surrounding the audience. Our closing selections are secular Christmas favorites where each song includes two songs in unique arrangement.
