AIREENE & THE ITCH Birthday Show!
April 5th is Aireene's birthday! Join us in celebration! Her songs are a mix of stompin', swayin' and timeless Americana reminiscent of front porch storytelling, of ghosts and the living, times of laughter and tears.
Aireene was a soloist with the Glide Ensemble in San Francisco, toured nationwide and internationally, and in 2016, was added to the roster of artists under non-profit label, Little Village Foundation. She created A Color-Coded Symphony project, a musical experience connecting the audience’s ethnic origins to rhythms of the world and whose aim is to nurture curiosity and openness towards other cultures through music. Her latest project is, The Sampaguitas, singing Filipino folk songs and originals in three-part harmonies.
“A rare breed of artist, soul singer, folk troubadour, a skiffle tear-stained street singer with a heart as big as the history of the music that drives her...a storyteller without borders or cultural limitations.” - No Depression
“Folk singer-songwriter Aireene Espiritu works in the elemental substance of vernacular American music with an uncanny ease. Whether blues, hillbilly, soul, folk or R&B...demonstrates masterly command of each. Her original compositions mix deft lyrical construction and classic form just as impressively...An authentic, authoritative vocalist and with distinctly sensitive manner of phrasing...” - Los Angeles Times

GENESIS FERMIN & DOCTORA XINGONA
Doctora Xingona’s ancestors bloom in their voice as exaltations of queer love and liberation. An expansive multidisciplinary artist, Doctora Xingona is the creator of Quiero Volver: A Xingonx Ritual Opera, a multimedia performance altar for queer, trans, and gender expansive BIPOC artists to convene and manifest futures.
Quiero Volver has been described as “acoustically stunning,” and audience members have said that they were “inspired to take action, artistic and political.”
Genesis Fermin is a gardener and multifaceted artist who cultivates lush fruits and soul-illuminating songs. Their music documents the ache of longing, vivid childhood memories, and a life lived against the grain, blurring every boundary.
Genesis grows music and food in the Bay Area, and is the co-founder and co-producer of I Need Space Queer Music Festival, founded to support a diverse, international array of queer artists during the COVID19 pandemic.
Their debut album, Genesis Fermin (Sharpsong Music), was released in 2021 and produced by Gina Villalobos, and the “gentle acoustic rhythms” on this album are described by Americana UK as “smartly written, [with] a strong vocal.”
