Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co. Annual Firefighter's Memorial Bell Ringing Ceremony & Open House
The public is invited to join Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company this Sunday as firefighters and EMS personnel will toll the bell in the Memorial Garden 89 times in recognition of firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2023. The sound of a bell holds special significance for firefighters. Historically, the toll of a bell summoned members to the station, signaled the beginning of a shift, notified departments of a call for help, and indicated a call was completed and the unit had returned to the station.
The Annual Firefighter Memorial Bell Ringing Ceremony at Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company coincides with the beginning of National Fire Prevention Week. Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company will be hosting an open house at Station 7 immediately following the ceremony. The open house will feature station and apparatus tours and kitchen fire safety presentations by the Delaware State Fire School. There will be a limited number of smoke detectors available for those needing a device in their home. (Limit 1 smoke detector per household.)
