AET Presents the Electrifying Musical “On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan”
The rhythm is gonna get you” with the award-winning musical, “On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan.” Based on the inspiring true-life story of the Estefans and showcasing the powerful Latin-infused superhits of The Miami Sound Machine as well as later solo hits by Gloria, this jukebox musical celebrates two artists whose talent, determination and belief in each other helped them defy the odds to become international superstars. A vibrant eight-piece LIVE band will be onstage to drive the pulse of this exhilarating musical. Performances run weekends July 31-August 23 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2 p.m.
Lights come up on the now famous Gloria Estefan (Danae Dorame), just finishing up a performance, and an exchange between her husband, Emilio (Rafael J. Acuña) and son makes her recall when she was a young girl sending songs to her father serving overseas in Vietnam. Flashing back, we witness her family’s humble beginnings in Cuba to American immigrants. Gloria and her family struggle like many from Little Havana, making their way as best they can, and while Gloria’s mother Gloria Fajardo (Anel Schmidt) wants young Gloria to be practical, Gloria’s grandmother, Consuelo (Rosanne Couston), encourages her to keep practicing and dreaming.
Soon Consuelo learns of a local band called the Miami Latin Boys, led by Emilio Estefan, and encourages Gloria to play for them. Once they hear her talent, they immediately bring her into the fold and rename the band to The Miami Sound Machine. As the band rises to fame, so does the flame of love bloom between Gloria and Emilio, and they are married. But the road of stardom is not always easy, and as Gloria and Emilio face some devastating challenges, their love, determination, and the power of their music carries them through.
With the unmistakable signature sound of the Miami Sound Machine, a fusion of Latin rhythm, funk, and pop music, electrifying dance, and soaring vocals, and megahits like “Conga,” “1-2-3,” “Anything for You,” and “Coming Out of the Dark,” “On Your Feet!” will get audiences up out of their seats and clapping for more.
