AET Presents Raucous Fun at “Rock of Ages” the Musical

Get ready to have your face melted off with 80s chart toppers at “Rock of Ages,” erupting onto the Arts Express Theatre stage Aug. 16 – Sept. 1! With hits from Styx, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, and more, this multi-Tony nominated, glam-metal jukebox journey is full of sexy shenanigans and music that will get you head-banging in your seat! “Rock of Ages” performances run August 16 – September 1 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Opening on the Sunset Strip in 1987, Lonny Barrett (Rafael J. Acuña), Narrator and Bourbon Room Assistant “Manager,” tells us the story of wannabe rocker, Drew (Dallen Anderson). It’s an ordinary day full of sexy waitresses, hair metal, and free-flowing beer when aspiring actress Sherrie (Danae Dorame) arrives fresh off the small-town bus, and Drew instantly falls for her. As sparks electrify the romance in the room, Drew is too afraid to tell Sherrie how he feels and unwittingly throws Sherrie into the “friend” zone. Enter rock god Stacee Jaxx (Tommy Irish), performing his final concert at the Bourbon Room, where he also has eyes for Sherrie. Star-struck by Stacee’s magnetism, will Sherrie fall for his seductive act? Meanwhile, the Mayor (Stevie Johnson) and construction mogul Hertz (Ben Anderson) make plans to tear down everything the “sinning” rock- and-rollers in town hold dear, especially the beloved Bourbon Room. Will the Bourbon Room and rocker hearts be demolished, or will the power of 80s Aquanet hairspray and tight Spandex pants be enough to save the day? With mega-hits like “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” and other iconic rock anthems arranged by Ethan Popp and a rollicking, irresistible, Book by Chris D'Arienzo, there ain’t “Nothing but a Good Time” happening at “Rock of Ages.” “Rock of Ages” is directed by Jonathon Scott Crider, with music direction by Linda Ackermann and choreography by Shelby Finnie.
