ADRIAN WEST TRIO Oakland-based Adrian West Trio is the "intimate" version of the Adrian West Band, a five-piece acoustic rock ensemble that plays uplifting originals, catchy instrumentals and the odd cover song. To some they sound like a cross between Paul Simon and Talking Heads. The trio features two vocalists, acoustic guitar, electric violin, upright bass, percussion and live looping. Adrian's approach to songwriting starts with the music. He likes his songs to stand on their own musically, independent of the lyrics. With that in mind, his songwriting process always starts with the music. Often he will complete the instrumental layers of the song from start to finish (chords, melodies, arrangement) before writing a single word. If he feels the music "has legs" then he'll start toying with lyrics, looking for themes that reflect the mood and cadence of the music. He takes delight in setting thoughtful lyrics to joyful music.
