SATURDAY, MARCH 25 1:00pm Scheherazade, Tell Me a Story by Yousry Nasrallah Heba is a TV presenter interested in broadcasting stories that touch on the everyday secret lives of women and the social injustices they face. Her frank style in broadcasting puts her husband's job and consequently her marriage in jeopardy. 3:30pm Angels on Diamond Street by Peter Lom Angels on Diamond Street highlights three social justice fighters at the Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia. They welcome an undocumented immigrant family and defy immigration authorities. The documentary promotes compassion and disregards borders of race, nationality, and religion. 5:20pm Rosa Chumbe by Jonatan Relayze Rosa, a troubled cop with addiction issues, lives with her daughter and grandchild. After a fight, Sheila steals Rosa's savings and abandons her baby. Forced to care for him, Rosa's heart softens until a fateful night leads to trouble. Only a miracle can save her now. 7:00pm Ticha Shahar Hona by Rasika Agashe Ticha Shaher Hona is a Mumbai-based story. Archana, a woman leading a routine life, meets confident and vocal house help Kiran. Tragically, Kiran dies in a road accident witnessed by Archana, who is left shattered. This incident changes Archana's perspective and life forever. SUNDAY, MARCH 26 1:00pm Colorism in Latin America: White Like the Moon & Angelica White Like The Moon by Marina Palmier A Mexican-American girl struggles to keep her identity when her mother forces her to bleach her skin. White Like the Moon is a revealing film about a dilemma not very well known outside Latino communities; that of the myth of the light skin superiority in Indigenous and Indigenous descendant communities. Angelica by Marisol Gómez-Mouakad Angelica returns to Puerto Rico when her father suffers a stroke, forcing her to confront her strained relationships with family members who judge her for her skin color. After her father's death, she must choose between a dissatisfying yet secure life or embarking on an adventurous journey of self-discovery as a modern, strong, black Puerto Rican woman. 3:20pm The Silent Monologue by Charles Van Damme, Khady Sylla Amy, a domestic worker in Dakar, Senegal, dreams of opening her own eatery while enduring constant criticism from her wealthy employer. She represents the 150,000 young women who work as housekeepers in Dakar instead of attending school to support their families. 4:30pm An Uncommon Woman by Abdoulaye Dao Mina, CEO of a large company, decides to take a second partner. It is a daring and cavalier decision, in an environment where polyandry is viewed with suspicion. But Mina has her reasons. 6:30pm Zora Neal Hurston: Jump at the Sun by Roger Gnoan M'Bala Zora Neale Hurston was a pioneering novelist and anthropologist who established African American vernacular as an important voice in American literature. This definitive film biography captures her complexity, presenting her as a gifted, flamboyant, and controversial yet fiercely original figure in the American literary canon.
