Acoustic Soul with Davis Mitchell

First, there was Mister Skinny, a psychidelifunk outfit that became a regional favorite at the re-birth of jam bands (Phish, Moe, The Disco Biscuits, Big Ass Truck). After Mister Skinny parted ways in 2000, Mitchell began to write new songs and eventually found an outlet for them in the band Dishwater Blonde, a torch bearing funk out for he formed with his long time friend, Robby Mathis. Dubbed, “The funkiest white boy in the history of the Knoxville music scene…” by the late great Brandon Gibson, Mitchell led the charge with DWB and went on to have a great deal of success by sharing positivity and light through their music. DWB played 3 nights at the famed Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival alongside Dave Matthews, Phish, Citizen Cope, Gary Clark Jr. etc. DWB opened for musical giants such as Morris Day and The Time, War, The Village People, Robert Randolph, Victor Wooten, Arrested Development and many more.) In that 10 year period, DWB Released 3 Albums, 2 Live DVD’s and played hundreds of live shows including Knoxville’s infamous Sundown In the City and Saturday night on the town events. After DWB disbanded in 2012, Mitchell released a solo album called “Make Something Beautiful” in 2012 and supported it by touring for the next couple of years. Mitchell has continued to front several bands and write songs songs of all genres. He released a self titled EP in 2021 and simultaneously released video (shot in downtown Knoxville) for the first single called “The Hurt Song” in which he addressed his own personal struggles with chronic mental health issues and substance abuse. Davis Mitchell’s new album (Tentatively titled “Luminosity”) is in the works and set to be released on June 7, 2025 to honor Prince on what would have been his 67th birthday. Davis has also found another creative outlet through the music of a folk acoustic duo he formed with his partner called Fox’s Din. Fox’s Din music is a refreshing detour from the normal groove based songwriting that Mitchell has become known for. “Natasha introduced me to a lot of new music that I was unfamiliar with, music that was more lyrically focused and that has changed the way I write songs! It has broadened my horizons and I’ve grown as a musician and a person through this process!” Fox’s Din is currently writing songs for an upcoming release in 2025!
