These wars will decide the fate of North America and be the major factor leading to the American Revolution and the formation of the United States. After fighting in the wars, most colonists began to think of themselves as Americans, not British subjects. They began to have an American outlook, both politically and economically, and a style of living that was distinct from that of England. St. John de Crevecoeur, author of Letters From an American Farmer, would describe Americans as a whole new breed of man. "What then is the American, this new man?"
