ACE - Abstract Acrylic Painting: Non-Objective Art (not for the very beginner)
Abstract art encompasses a wide range of approaches and techniques. In this
class we will look at contemporary artists who work intuitively and create non objective work. Learn how to build up layers and texture using acrylic mediums such as gesso, texture paste, pouring medium, gel mediums, and drawing tools. Develop color mixing skills by expanding your typical palette to create a more harmonious composition. Classes will include demonstrations and discussions based on the abstract art concepts and techniques of these artists. Lessons will be taught in steps so that you can learn and practice techniques while building confidence, and students will be encouraged and supported in creating their own compositions in the styles discussed. Supplies: 3-4 canvases in sizes of your choice; acrylic paint brushes in various sizes, palette paper, a palette knife, and a roll of blue masking tape. You can bring whatever acrylic paint you may have to our first class. If you need to purchase acrylic paint, Liquitex Basics or Master’s Choice paint sets of at least 24 will work. You can purchase the smallest and most economical brand of mediums. Acrylic mediums you will need are: Gloss gel or Matt medium, gesso, and modeling paste. Local craft stores with discounts or online Amazon will be your best choice.
