Do you know what Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are and that they are permitted in Kirkwood? Sometimes referred to as granny flats, mother-in-law suites, or FROGs (Finished Rooms Over Garages), modern ADUs can be so much more. ADUs can help provide attainable housing for young adult children, independent elderly parents, and everyone in between. ADUs are a growing housing solution that offers flexibility, affordability, and the potential to address local housing needs
Kirkwood for Everyone invites residents, property owners, and community stakeholders to attend a free public presentation on ADUs.
Steve Hoard, co-owner of HOUSE OF HOARD Architecture and Development LLC [HOH], will be presenting. Steve will explain:
• What is an Accessory Dwelling Unit, and where Kirkwood allow them?
• Types of ADUs (garage conversions, basement apartments, backyard cottages, etc.)
• Kirkwood’s zoning and permitting requirements
• The benefits they offer to homeowners and neighborhoods, including how ADUs can support multigenerational living, rental income, and attainable housing goals
Hoard is a licensed Architect in Missouri and three other states and is nationally NCARB Certified. Steve has worked in single- and multi-family for more than 30 years. HOH does not take outside design clients, so we will invite other local builders to attend our presentation.
There will be time for Q&A, as well as resources available for those interested in taking the next steps.
