AAUW Scottsdale Branch Meeting
The American Association of University Women- Scottsdale presents monthly meetings promoting our mission of advancing gender equity through research, education, and advocacy. This month, we are pleased to host Scottsdale Mayor Ortega, who will present the challenges ahead for our city.

Mayor David D. Ortega took office January 2021, as the 12th mayor of Scottsdale.
A life-long advocate for equality, Mayor Ortega led public outreach, formulation, and passage of the Anti-Discrimination Ordinance by the City Council to ensure Scottsdale remains a livable and economically vibrant city for all. Mayor Ortega championed the adoption of General Plan 2035 to revitalize our economy, support the arts, and preserve Scottsdale’s natural beauty. He is leading efforts to reign-in excessive building height and density in Old Town, while preserving our Western hospitality that draws tourists and visitors from across the globe.
To strengthen economic vitality and keep Scottsdale’s workforce competitive, Mayor Ortega and the City Council established a Joint Education Committee with Scottsdale Unified School District and Scottsdale Community College. Mayor Ortega chairs quarterly meetings to support scholarships, internships, and employment pathways.

Mayor Ortega and his wife Rosemary Gannon live near Saguaro High School where they raised their children, Alexandra and Luke.
There will be a general business meeting prior to the mayor’s speech and Q&A session. It will showcase the activities of our branch: political, non-partisan advocacy, fundraising for scholarships for women, and procuring books for children in Title 1 schools. Our branch also has many special interest groups: book groups, community action, and mahjong to name a few
