A Place for Jazz Concert- Tyreek McDole Quintet November 7, 2025
Tyreek McDole, a 25-year-old Haitian-American vocalist, with a string of prestigious awards stands out as a rising star in the music world, making waves on the New York and international music scenes. He received a degree in jazz performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, under the guidance of esteemed instructors Gary Bartz, Gerald Cannon, Eddie Henderson, Billy Hart, and Sullivan Fortner.
Tyreek first gained attention at the acclaimed Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2018 Essentially Ellington national student competition where he made his vocal debut in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Winning this now ranks him among the competition’s previous winners including the standout artists Samara Joy (2019 winner) and Jazzmeia Horn (2013 winner). Tyreek is the second male to ever win in the competition’s 12-year history.
Since then, Tyreek has shared the stage with an impressive roster of musicians, including Theo Croker, NEA Jazz Master Gary Bartz, Miki Yamanaka, Mike King, Rodney Whitaker, Winard Harper, Marcus Printup, Eric Reed, Carl Allen, Victor Goines, and many others.
Tyreek has appeared at many of the world’s most hallowed stages such as Blue Note New York, Salle Pleyel, Nublu, Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Ronnie Scott’s, Birdland Jazz Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, and major international festivals such as the Newport Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Jazz and the Nice Jazz Festival.
His debut album, Open Up Your Senses, released in June 2025 on Artwork Records, is #1 on Jazz Week, received 4 stars in DownBeat Magazine, and is being celebrated as one of the most thoughtful and spiritually resonant jazz debuts in years.
