Paris. The Nazi occupation.
Pablo Picasso is brought to a vault beneath the streets of the city, where countless works of art have been confiscated and hidden away.
Waiting for him is Miss Fischer, a German cultural attaché with an unusual request: she needs Picasso to authenticate three paintings believed to be his.
It sounds simple.
It isn't.
What begins as an interrogation quickly becomes a battle of intelligence, wit and will between two people on opposite sides of history. As Picasso discovers what the Nazis intend to do with his work, questions of art, politics, identity, courage and survival become increasingly personal.
Who decides what makes a work of art valuable? What happens when those in power decide certain art should no longer exist? And what is an artist willing to risk when his work—and perhaps his own life—is threatened?
Jeffrey Hatcher's *A Picasso* imagines a fascinating confrontation with one of the most celebrated and controversial artists of the 20th century. Intimate, provocative and often unexpectedly funny, this two-character drama places the audience only feet away from a psychological duel in which the balance of power can change with a single word.
Performed in an intimate 50-seat black box theatre, *A Picasso* brings audiences extraordinarily close to the actors and the confrontation unfolding between them.
ONE ARTIST.
ONE VISITOR.
ONE IMPOSSIBLE CONVERSATION.
