Music serves many roles in our society: it entertains us, educates us, and can even become a focal point for entire lives. These roles do not end with life, however, as music is also an important part of the death process. Music is used to comfort those left to grieve, as well as to commemorate and celebrate the lives of the deceased. From musicians and composers to critics and singers, music was a key element in the lives of many who now rest at Laurel Hill. On this tour, you will learn about the lives of the renowned composer Michael Cross, Broadway and Hollywood actress Anne Francine, the father of American opera William Henry Fry, and many more. Along the way we will also discuss the role of music in the funerary process as well as differing types of music, which are as wide-ranging and varied as the people on our tour.
