A Musical Gift - SYMPHONIC POETRY
Richard Wagner’s Siegfried’s Idyll, one of the pieces you will hear during
our upcoming “Symphonic Poetry” concert, is a musical expression
of a very joyous and idyllic time between two people who were happy
and in love. Originally composed as a birthday gift to his wife
Cosima, Wagner presented it to her on Christmas Day, 1870. It was an
homage to their complicated past relationships which, eventually, allowed them to marry.
The audience will also hear music by Rossini (Overture to La cambiale di matrimonio), Sibelius (Valse triste) and Schubert (Symphony No. 5).
