4Now Concert Celebrate 5x5=10!
As part of its milestone 10th anniversary season, fivebyfive is introducing something new — 4Now, a series of four smaller, more intimate concerts designed to bring audiences even closer to the music.
For the September 12th concert, the repertoire includes music by Anthony R. Green, Julia Seeholzer, Glenn McClure, Marc Mellits, Pauline Oliveros.
Known for championing new works by under-represented composers, the ensemble of world-class musicians is using this format to strip away the distance between performer and listener.
The concerts will be held in the cozy performance space at Payton Violins in Rochester’s Village Gate at 250 North Goodman Street, Rochester, New York. Audience members are invited to experience fivebyfive’s music in a setting where every note feels personal, every gesture is visible, and every piece comes with the story of its creation. “We love the energy of our full-scale concerts,” says artistic director and flutist Laura Lentz, “but there’s something magical about a room small enough that you can see the music in someone’s eyes.”
4Now is an extension of the Of This World theme for the 2025-2026 season which serves as a reminder that music speaks a universal language and can connect all of us as a community. By scaling down the venue, fivebyfive is deepening the ensemble’s impact and creating an intimate connection between audience, musician, and composer.
fivebyfive is an award-winning chamber ensemble dedicated to commissioning and performing new music created by composers who are typically underrepresented in their field. Five world-class musicians and one video/audio artist make up the group which is based in Rochester, New York. fivebyfive is supported by Rochester Area Community Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), and New Music USA for working regularly with and supporting the development of music creators and artists, offering crucial resources to their community. Fivebyfive is thrilled to be celebrating ten years of creativity and collaboration in 2025.
