37th Annual GRIP Harmony Walk to End Hunger & Homelessness

GRIP’s 37th annual Harmony Walk to end hunger and homelessness brings the community of Richmond together at Nicholl Park on October 28th, 2023. Harmony Walk registration is on sale now for $37 and the earlier you register, the better! The Greater Richmond Interfaith Program’s most high-profile event is not just a fundraiser, but a chance to connect with the community and those working within it. Join the walk at 9:30 a.m. sharp to tour GRIP’s facilities, from the garden to the playground to the kitchen, to see how GRIP offers new and innovative services to care for our society’s most vulnerable, and prevent recurring homelessness. The festivities continue at Nicholl Park as KTVU 2 anchor Roberta Gonzales emcees and welcomes dignitaries, local musical groups, and GRIP leaders to the stage. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Kevin Fagan will share his experience living as a homeless person unhoused during award-winning reporting that is now the basis of an eye-opening book telling the stories of the streets. MUSIC Carolyne Christine Magia joins us for the second year in a row, accompanied by pianist Debbie Grisso to sing “Memories” along with the Bell’ Aria Flute Trio ensemble, led by Ellen DeCarlo from Hope Lutheran Church. Another member congregation, Christ Lutheran, brings the juggling expertise of Elsa-Jennie Bliss to the stage for the second year in a row. FOOD While you’re listening and watching, be sure to visit Curbside Kitchen’s food truck, a perfect Bay Area fusion of Filipino and American ideas melded into a menu of signature burgers and banh mi. The first 100 registrants will also enjoy free Humphrey Slocombe’s Ice Cream, or buy more! We all scream for ice cream with flavors screaming of Bay Area gourmet, like Secret Breakfast, Black Sesame, and Machadoodle. KIDS’ ACTIVITIES For the children and the young at heart, we’ve got you covered with the Bouncy House, of course; plus, the West Coast Chess Alliance is bringing their giant lawn chess set for life-size games. (Remember Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets? We promise, though, no pieces will explode.) And, the Richmond Art Center has crafts and art for kids at their booth. ART AT HARMONY WALK Art is a big theme. We’ll be giving away 100 collectors’ edition tote bags to the first registrants, featuring our Bay Area Mural Program’s mural design from the shelter, created by Rachel Wolfe-Goldsmith, and now yours thanks to support from Richmond’s own Leftside Printing.
