25th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert will host a special memorial ceremony on Friday, September 11, bringing together community members, first responders, military personnel, veterans and local leaders to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the courage and sacrifice of those who answered the call to serve, and reflect on the strength and unity our nation demonstrated in the aftermath of that tragic day. The ceremony will feature remarks from Alameda County Supervisor and Board President David Haubert, Alameda County Fire Chief Willie McDonald, and additional community and public safety leaders. The ceremony will also feature moving remarks from speakers who were personally impacted by the events of September 11, 2001, offering personal reflections on loss, service, resilience and the strength of communities that came together in the days and years that followed. Their stories will help ensure that the lives and sacrifices of that day are remembered by future generations. The morning’s program will include the Alameda County Fire Department Honor Guard’s presentation of the colors, the National Anthem, patriotic live musical performances, a ceremonial “Call of the Bell,” a military rifle salute and the playing of Taps. “September 11 is a day we pause to remember the people we lost and honor the extraordinary courage of those who responded,” said Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert. “As we mark 25 years, I hope our community will come together in remembrance and carry forward the spirit of service, strength and unity that brought us together.” MEMORIAL PROGRAM FEATURES • 25 Years of Remembrance: Honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and keeping their memory alive for future generations. • Presentation of the Colors & National Anthem: Opening the ceremony with patriotic honors. • Call of the Bell: A ceremonial tribute honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11. • Rifle Salute & Taps: A traditional military tribute in remembrance of those who lost their lives. • Personal Reflections: Hearing from speakers who were personally impacted by the events of September 11 and can share their experiences and reflections. • Honoring First Responders: Recognizing the courage and sacrifice of firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency personnel and other first responders.
