One of the signature events of SIMI Film Fest 2026, the annual Film Music Concert brings the magic of the movies to the concert stage with the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor and film composer Joseph Metcalfe.
The evening celebrates the powerful role music plays in storytelling, featuring iconic themes from beloved films alongside new music by emerging composers and original scores from films screening at this year’s SIMI Film Fest. The orchestra will perform music from Harry Potter, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Patriot, Star Trek, Dances with Wolves, The Lord of the Rings and Mission: Impossible, including several unforgettable works by legendary composer John Williams.
FROM THE FESTIVAL SCREEN TO THE CONCERT STAGE
In a unique connection between the film festival and live performance, the concert will feature scores from three films selected for SIMI Film Fest 2026: The Buzz in Ben, with music by Ethan Anderson; Masterpiece, with music by Jesse Haugen; and Evie’s Christmas Gift, with music by Giuseppe Alfano.
The concert also marks the culmination of the inaugural SIMI Film Fest Film Music Competition. Five winning composers from around the world will have their original music performed live by the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra: Quanying Wang, Haoyu Chen, Finn Clarke, Thomas Yamada and Eva Mazurek.
The competition and concert recognize an essential part of filmmaking that audiences rarely have the opportunity to experience this way: hearing original music written for the screen brought to life by a full orchestra in front of a live audience.
AN EVENING FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY
The Film Music Concert is open to the general public. Beginning at 6:00 PM, ticket holders are invited to a pre-concert gathering with filmmakers, composers, musicians and fellow guests, including red carpet photo opportunities and beer, wine and champagne available for purchase. The concert begins at 7:30 PM.
The Film Music Concert is part of the fourth annual SIMI Film Fest, taking place September 12–20 at Studio Movie Grill and throughout Simi Valley.
