The 2025 HDSA Team Hope 5K Walk & Timed Run – takes place Saturday, October 4th at Sports Basement Presidio in San Francisco, California. The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) will host the San Francisco Team Hope 5K Walk & Timed Run on Saturday, October 4th, at Sports Basement Presidio, 610 Old Mason St, San Francisco, CA, 94129. All proceeds support HDSA’s mission to improve the lives of people affected by Huntington’s disease (HD) and their families. Registration opens at 9:00 AM, and the Walk begins at 10:00 AM. This year’s event will add extra excitement with a timed run – so lace up your sneakers and get ready to race the clock! “The HD community is very close to my heart. Every year, I am inspired to see families, friends, and supporters come together to walk, run, and stand strong in the fight against HD. With every step, we honor loved ones and bring hope closer to reality.” – Uma Thontakudi, Event Chair. Team Hope is HDSA’s largest national grassroots fundraising event, taking place in more than 100 cities across the U.S. and raising over $28 million since its inception in 2007. Thousands of families, friends, co-workers, and neighbors participate each year to support HDSA’s mission: improving the lives of people affected by HD and their families. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene. Today, there are approximately 41,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at risk of inheriting the disease. The symptoms of HD are described as having ALS, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s – simultaneously. The Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) is the premier nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by HD. From community services and education to advocacy and research, HDSA is the world’s leader in providing help for today and hope for tomorrow for people with HD and their families. HDSA was founded in 1967 by Marjorie Guthrie, wife of folk singer Woody Guthrie, who died from HD complications at age 55. The Guthrie family legacy continues to inspire HDSA’s mission today.
