19-Piece Compaq Big Band w/ Vocalist Cara Campanelli at *FREE* Shrewsbury Concert
Hopefully, the Compaq Big Band isn’t dodgin’ the dodgy weather that Summer 2024 in New England seems to have trademarked when we take over the bandstand at Dean Park in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts on Monday August 12th. Presented by the Shrewsbury Recreation Department, this is part of their FREE outdoor concert series, open to all - just bring a blanket and/or lawn chair. If the meteorological gods do frown on us, we’ll be postponed to Wednesday August 14th, same location (wouldn’t dare rain twice in 3 days…).
The show runs 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Use “Dean Park, Shrewsbury, MA” to navigate to the venue. Stay tuned to the Rec Department’s Facebook page for any updates!
A cornerstone of our approach to keeping big bands relevant and vibrant is to always provide summer concert audiences with a range of exciting fare - from timeless jazz and swing of the Great American Songbook up through progressive, fun arrangements crafted by the masters of the last few decades.
Fronting the band on August 12th will be the fabulous Cara Campanelli on vocals, channelin’ Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole, and more. We’ll also be hittin’ the audience with some of our best instrumental arrangements, too. Think Bill Holman, Sammy Nestico, Chris Walden, Gordon Goodwin, plus a couple more surprises.
As is the case wherever we go, the band will have our professional, state-of-the-art traveling sound system, operated by our very experienced, full-time sound engineer. That means you’ll hear Cara, all the instrumental soloists, and the entire ensemble, clearly. All of this brought together with the band’s passion for production excellence.
